Shell Island Beach Club Resort is part of the Hilton Hotel chain. It is found on Sanibel Island, close to the historic lighthouse on the island and overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Sanibel is right off the south west coast of the mainland. Getting to Sanibel with your Florida car rental can a little while, but it is worth the trip when you see how beautiful it is! The island is located 25 miles from Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.

To get to Sanibel from the mainland, you need to cross the Sanibel Causeway. There is a $6 toll to get to the island, but there is no cost to get back to the mainland with your Florida car rental. Once you get to Sanibel, it is only a short trip to her sister island, Captiva, with your Florida car rental. Taking Periwinkle Way will lead you to Sanibel-Captiva road via Palm Ridge Road or Tarpon Bay Road. This route will take you past some of the most beautiful attractions on the island. You will then cross a short bridge at Blind Pass. Going north, you will arrive on Captiva Island.

The resort features two-bedroom villas with screened balconies and fully equipped kitchens. Rooms have cable TV and a washer and dryer inside them. The hotel has two heated pools and a whirlpool spa and sauna. There is one tennis court on the property, picnic areas with barbeques, and many other things to do at the hotel. The resort is in a great location, only steps from great shelling and the beach. The area is know for its tennis, golf, water sports, nature tours, snorkeling, bird watching, and fishing. Once you arrive with your Florida car rental, you won't want to leave.

Life Is a Beach

Sanibel is well known for its shelling beaches. The island lies east to west along the Florida coast and is a "scoop" for seashells along the beaches. These are some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida. All the beaches require you pay for parking if you go with your Florida car rental.

Since Sanibel is a tourist town, there are many people visiting during the winter months. All of the people that come to work and visit put a strain on the roads of the tiny island, and sometimes getting around can be slow. In the morning and afternoon rush hours, it can be easier to bike or walk.

During hurricane season, there is some risk of storms hitting. The most serious hurricane in 44 years was in August 2004 when Hurricane Charley struck to the north, the most serious hurricane since Donna in 1960. However, no buildings were destroyed and only a few were seriously damaged. Residents were evacuated and were not allowed to return until the island was in living condition again. The island is very safe to visit at all times of the year.
